Wow, time flies...

With a blink of an eye, I have started working for almost 4 months!

This is my first outdoor company event held in Sentosa. Although is kind of dragging to wake up in the early sat morning to attend a company event, nonetheless, I tell myself I will definitely enjoy myself by taking some nice photographs.

After a while, I start to move out of the main activity area and decided to take a walk down the beach to take a breather, away from the crowd. It was then I realized, a girl sitting alone.

Immediately，I was thinking.. hmm.. "why is she so gloomy on such a joyful event?"

Nonetheless, there are still kids who enjoyed them just as much as the adults did. :)

Grad trip to Taiwan

An Ichiban Day

A short post to update on a simple yet enjoyable treat. We are superfull that day but on hand we had a voucher that was expiring soon so we decided just to order some light meals and ended with a delicious dessert.

While having dessert, I dropped this particular red bean and hey! It seemed that it will make a good picture.

Kite Flying @ Barrage

First of all! ahh.. sorry for the late update. This event was back dated on 20th June but it was not until today when I had a chance to rest at home due to stomach upset that I can have the time to blog about this memorable event.

It was my first time flying a kite. Yes, my first time at the age of 25 yrs old! haha. It was not a very sucessful first attempt at first. Our Sparrow suffered from broken wing and it was really after a hard repair that we could get it to fly up to the sky for a short while before it is gone forever buried under the famous river of Singapore.

If you can see from the above 2 picture.. the rear wing was broken. It then became a burden for the kite to fly up and to maintain stability up in the sky. Honestly, while I was repairing it, I seriously doubt that it would be able to fly up among with the rest. But this kite really proved itself well. Not only, it was able to fly up with the rest despite having physical disability, but also able to withstand the pressure from its surrounding and 'bullies' up in the sky.

Actually not only our sparrow faces problem. The goldfish kite named "playful little koi" faced lots of obstacles too. But 团结就是力量。With a combination of resources and skill.. The Kite is up the sky too!

Too bad both me and qx had to leave early for fathers' day celebration. Heard they had lots of fun in the after kite flying activities. Really hope we can meet up again for another yet exciting and memorable event! :)

Sometimes is good to take your time to do things..

In this modern society.. fast = efficient, time = money, but who got spare a thought for health, who really will pace down for a moment to appreciate the surrounding?

Guess is hard, people nowadays have very little patience for slowness. They just want everything to be fast fast fast.. Please, spare a thought for those who really want to slow down for while and enjoy doing something.

Yumei's grad project showcase

Date: 26th May 2010, Time: about 8pm, Location: Lasalle

Last Wednesday was mei's grad project showcase. I can't believe that she got into Uni much later than me and yet graduated earlier than me. =P

Presenting the Cloud:

Although everyone is from different background, we were still trying to understand her project. Interestingly, it is indeed a unique concept and her explanation is simple and clear enough for us to understand roughly.

Ermm.. except for one who is not paying attention was caught red-handed! haha

There is something particularly I like about her project, which is the idea that we human "contained" ourselves too much in a either squarish or rectangular shaped room. According to yumei, it is thought of that staying in such room is not the best for human comfort. Hence it cut those squares and rectangle into various shapes resulting in curves.

Below is a blown up version of her project. It is on re-design a theatre in singapore. I think is victoria theatre.. (ps: for frends who know correct me if i am wrong.. haha)

Every which, I went to peek at other projects. I admit I was a bit excited that day, one thing is that I have my DSLR on hand, 2nd is that there are so much things that were worth for me to snap it down. Below are some interesting ones:

My 1st guided experiment for summer

Below is a picture of my basic setup for a particular reaction for my summer research.

The purpose of running this experiment is intially for my mentor to test my skill. But eventually it turn out to be a guiding and teaching session rather than a test due to my inexperience despite after having 3 yrs of lab session in school. =.=!

Nonetheless, I really do appreciate my mentor for having the best patience to standby me and guided me step by step throughout the experiment. Although gotten lots of scolding from her, but I do appreciate it. Is good to have a TA or experienced chemist just beside you and impart u all the important skills and also pin pointing all the major and minor mistakes made by either inexperience and careless me..

Can you imagine? (for chemistry student only =P )

Helix Bridge

ps : Sengwei! see that the bridge do have a pink lighting side! haha. It really changes from blue to pink!

My thoughts:

Okie, the bridge is beautifully lited with a unique concept of using trying to replicate the structure of a DNA. However, on the bad side, if you actually step into the bridge you will realised there is no shelter against rain or harmful sunrays. It is also gives one a very metallic and futuristic feeling rather than what DNA suppose to symbolise --- life.

But critics aside, the surrounding there could be quite a nice relaxing spot. You can see lots of families strolling, tourist exploring, children playing.. nice

一转眼大家都只剩下一年的时间，就快要毕业了。从下个学期起，猜想大家都很难有机会可以像以往一样，一起上课，一起吃午餐之类的。表面看起来很像是若无其事的样子，但说实在的还真是有点不舍得。

我总觉得我在上大学后，能认识你们也算是有缘。所以尽管之前发生了什么事都好，都不可能令我至于到把你给从我记忆里删除。我不是要写这些来奢望能把什么给扑救，只是想借此机会说出我的心声而已。

Pre exam welfare activities

Ok! Hell weeks for us are over BUT nothing to be really happy about yet cause exams is coming nextweek! But of course, we still need some proper rest and re-energising activities.

Today is such a random day, started with just the intention of having our hair cut and our activities proceed to shopping then to a delicious jap dinner and then eventually became a tourist for a night! haa! must say is fun and enjoying! Today after lesson, went to Family Karaoke at Sembawang HomeTeam NS. At first sight it seemed wulu as it is surrounded by many trees and it really give people the impression that the place is like some deserted houses. But, actually when you get yourselves into the club, you find the place has an unsual taste. seemed like a mimic of demsey place (pardon the spelling) .

In short, the k-session was really an enjoyable experience and definately a very afforable one too. Busy school life really need some great outing like this to relieve and recharged ourselves. Gladto have such activity before exam period. :)

Hort park visit + Henderson waves.

These 2 places although can be nothing special to quite alot of people yet is my first time there. Believe or not I am amazed by the peacefulness (perhaps is a weekday that i went) and its natural beauty.

Sometime is good to take a break juz by strolling in the park, and seriously have u asked urself this question recently?

And this time round I have my dear to accompany me as my photoshot buddy.

It has been a tiring yet fruitful day. I think we covered near to 10km of walking distance bah. haa.. Taking it as a form of exercise and a chance for us to sweat. But the dinner at harbour front hawker centre was delicious and it somehow value add to our trip =D

Chinese New Year!

Is after the 14 days of chinese new year that I have time to upload my chinese new year pictures. Study pace has hasten ever since after chinese new year. Be it tutorials, tests and lab reports. Almost everyday I could only afford just 4 to 5 hours of sleep. It is now that I am having my recess week that I could actually do this post. I really wished to continue to keep this blog alive as much as possible, but i really dun dare to think much the weeks ahead after recess. But I promise that I will try my best to keep this blog alive.

So right now, let's enjoy photos instead of hearing me complaining. haha.

That was how well fed we are for our tuan yuan fan.. You will realised that unlike others who are having steamboat, our family prefer to have cooked food for tuan yuan fan. It has always been like tat. I heard is becos my grandma prefers cook food then steamboat.. so yah, xin ku mummy le! The food was delicious and satisfying.

Next is Chu 1. Unlike previous years, this year we wait for all our relatives to gather at our house. Hence while waiting, we took our family photo.

It was after a long wait before all of them came and left. We (my siblings & I) decided to go down to town to catch a movie as it seemed to be a routine for us to catch a nice show at Chu 1.

While waiting we decided to eat something. Now we see that why people grow fat during chinese new year, cause we practically eat every hr. haa. Since not much of the shops/stalls were open at chu 1, we landed at Ajisan.

School Week 5- Fort Canning Park

Hmm.. If u have followed my blog so far, you will realised that school week 4 is missing. For my fellow coursemates should know why is it missing.. haha..

Nevertheless, after the test CNY mood sets in immediately... yesh ... instanteous, switched on. Totally no mood for any revision. Therefore, my best friend and I decided to go do some shooting in Fort Canning Park.

The exciting part in today shooting is that I just bought a Macro Lens! =D I have been eyeing on all sorts of Marco Lens ever since i bought my DSLR. However, now I only could afford the EF-S 60mm Marco Lens instead of my most ideal 100mm focal length. But I am very statisfied with it le. Wait till in the future then upgrade bah. Hence below will be some pictures i took using a macro lens w/o reading the manual.. haa. so pardon the poor quality k? =P

After which, we decided to walk down the long pathway and trying hard to seek for some other nice spots.

We indeed spent a very fruitful afternoon together taking nice pictures, giving each other useful hints and advise.. Glad to have a nice buddy along when taking photographs. We snap and snap in fort canning park till almost sunset in which we heed zhining advise that we should leave the place soon before it turn dark.

We then went to Central for our dinner. Dinner was simple but statisfying. Came out with a conclusion that somehow i realised that only food retail can survive well. But the other normal retail store like those selling clothes etc, have no business at all. Kinda sad..

After dinner, both of u continue to stroll by the Singapore River to see if there is any chance for us to get nice pics even though without a tripod. The pictures turn out to be quite satisfying but of course need much improvement. Will try with a tripod if have the chance.

Grandma Birthday

My grandma 72th birthday!

At this age, i supposed a good family gathering with full member attendance is anything more important than any presents given. Nothing can be more happy than being surrounded by ur own sons, daughters, grandson, granddaughter and even great grandson/daughters:

Erm... I am his uncle? haha sounds so old...Anyway i like his expression.

Not much pictures was taken that day cause due to the restuarant was holding a wedding dinner too at the same time! I shall give the space to the official photographer to snap those memorable videos for the newly weds.

School Week 3 -- "Shinne" Lot 1

Going towards the 4th week of school, the stress has begin to emerge like a monster growing day by day.. Not to mentioned much abt the organometallic test on friday, but it is the main source of my stress now arghh!!

Anyway during the mid of 3rd week, an uninvited guest popped by, named Mr Grasshopper:

Erm.. correct me if I am wrong if this is not a grasshopper. haa =X I doubt myself too. Anyway I tried my best to zoom in to this guest of mine, however as usual, there is always a limit on how far/how close my lens can zoomed into. Nevertheless, is a good practise for me to learn about shutter speed especially this guest of mine was so camera shy and was "running" around.

However, nothing can be more messy and chaotic then this:

Just imagine once you stepped out of the control station and you are welcome by this crowd of people. And do note that the weather is super duper warm. Let me remind of the days I was queuing for S.H.E too.

Thinking outdoor is so chaotic and warm, I decided to hide indoor so as to get some fresh air, but I was so wrong:

Apparently, the Korean boy band named "Shiny" or "Shinne" had turned the whole lot 1 upside down. Note all the shop beside these crowd closed their door and imagine the amount of losses incurred.

Apparently, I am not being gender biased here. They are really all girls! okie la, 95% girls. And the last picture really make me laughed so badly la while I was taking it. The girls ran like there is a disaster coming like that or being chased by loanshark like that just to catch a final glimpse of their idol at the middle of the road!!

Okie after the korean boy band left, lot 1 quickly was restored back to its original self. Peaceful and quiet, hence both of us decided to take some shots of ourselves:

Although, we spent a short afternoon together running around lot 1, being pushed around by the crowd, but we did enjoyed ourselves a lot.

Tests are coming, that will mean we will have lesser time spent together. Nevertheless, is becos of all these busy schedules that we have that make all these short moments percious. School Week 2: Family dinner @ Crystal Jade

Today, my daddy decided to treat all of us to Crystal Jade for dinner. It is meant to celebrate for the birthday boy:

However as usual, such restuarant will take some time to serve their food, so its time for pictures!

#3: My happy grandmother! Guessed she is happy also because of my filial brother had given her an angbao as a token for his first recieved salary. Think she was touched by his action.

After dinner, we went for some shopping although most of the shops are in the midst of closing. Nevertheless, dear gotten herself a nice pair of shoes from Charles and Keith. It was then time to go home. But still, we never stop our photo-taking! haa!

Dear say wanna try to take blog-shop alike photo. So I tried to fufil her wish. haha. Is a nice suggestion too cause it makes me appreciate my camera even more! haa

It was really an enjoyable dinner. Especially for the whole day I was doing my research for lab report, so boring and sianzzzz. I do enjoy family gathering and I think is important as a part of family bonding too!

Looking forward to more family dinner coming up especially we are close to chinese new year! But of course, closing to chinese new year will also mean tests are coming.. Guess have to work hard again and hope for the best! :)

School Week 1

School has started for a week. Although 1st week meant to be a honeymoon week, most of us still can feel the stress and workload awaiting us for the subsequent weeks ahead. Think of it makes me shiver down my spine...

On Tuesday, went to Canon to exchange this:

Pictures do speak a thousand words right? I mean even any rational person will think of exchanging it. The black one cost $20 dollars and the tote bag cost $80. so you get what I mean?

It has been a rainy day... The rain is so heavy that I only managed to capture this (notice the raindrops on the ground) :

Study is important but must be balance with play and fun! haa..

#5: Testing on what shutter speed should I use in order to capture/freeze the movement. And realised 1/160 seemed to be a nice balance btw light intake and movement freeze. Credits to her for jumping so many times.. hee...

Alright time for those er xin chemical compounds again. haha. Every semester seemed to be a challenge and in order to pass this challenge, everyone will have to work super duper hard. Mug like there is no tomorrow.

Nevertheless, Chemistry is still something that I like. I am glad that after all these yrs of torturing it still haven diminished my passion to learn it and appreciate it.

So ya... back to school will mean back to those stacks and stacks of notes :

Random walking @ orchard central

Before walking went to lucky plaza food court to settle our lunch first. While waiting for dear to order, I decided to practise my food shot. Not very fantastic though, still got a lot of room for improvement:

After our lunch, we decided to head up to orchard central roof garden and do our surprise it changed a lot!

#3: As usual, we need to take the long long escalator up, since got time, practise shooting again! haa

#4: Hmm.. tired 3 times before this shot. Previous few was too dark. Hence testing and playing around with the exposure setting and turn out to be quite satisfied w/o any flash.
#5: Testing the wide angle range of 18mm, Not bad but however for our Japan trip, i think i will bring along an Ultra Wide Angle (UWA) lens along (range 10-12mm).

#6: I took the below shot using a digital camera before. But I guess only SLR can give me the feel that i want it to present.

I walked at funan alone for quite long after dear joined her friends for dinner. I walked pass John 3:16 at least thrice just to think whether to get the 2 lenses or not. Haix..

But in the end, I told myself, I shall refrain myself for now. Shall save up more first before investing in new lens. In the meanwhile I shall focus more on bringing up the potential of the kit lens provided and practise my photography skills :)

Cleaning day

Today spent a day cleaning up my room. It has been a while since I did any serious cleaning and tidy due to the busy life i had for the past 1 yr. Since school is starting very soon (next monday), i decided to be good boy today by staying at home to tidy up so as to prepare myself for the start of a new sem!

Waiting for IMM shuttle bus to arrival is no longer boring. It was a hot sunny day. Everyone was complaining about the heat. It seemed that it doesn't stop us from taking photographs. :)

From today onwards, I will post up some of the photos that I took using my first DSLR. I hope this blog could be a recording medium for my improvement and also a place where sweet and nice memories are kept. :)

It consider to be a high end entry level DSLR camera for novice like me. I told myself that I must study and research harder to improve my photography skills so as not to letdown this great camera.

The service I recieved from John 3:16 was commendable. I appreciate Leslie effort especially for being so merticulous when fixing the screen protector onto my camera despite the fact that the shop is forever pack. I truely recommend anyone esp novice to get their first camera from them as they will try their best to answer any enquires and even demostrate for you.

In overall, it marks the beginning of my photography hobby! And i am really happy with my new added gadget!
